COOK, MARLOW WEBSTER, a Senator from Kentucky; born in Akron, Erie County, N.Y., on July 27, 1926; entered the United States Navy at seventeen and served in the submarine service in the Atlantic and Pacific during the Second World War; graduated University of Louisville Law School 1950; practiced law in Louisville, Kentucky; elected to the Kentucky house of representatives in 1957 and reelected in 1959; elected as a Jefferson County judge in 1961; reelected in 1965; elected in 1968 as a Republican to the United States Senate; subsequently was appointed on December 17, 1968, to fill the unexpired term caused by the resignation of Thruston B. Morton, and served from December 17, 1968, until his resignation December 27, 1974; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1974; resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C.; was a resident of Sarasota, Fla., until his death on February 4, 2016.
