was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in St. Charles, Mo.;
member of the State senate in 1846;
served in the State house of delegates in 1858;
judge of the circuit court for the nineteenth judicial district of Missouri 1859-1864;
elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1873);
was not a candidate for renomination in 1872;
resumed the practice of law;
died in Jefferson City, Mo., November 18, 1895;
interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Charles, Mo.
