1753; completed preparatory studies; studied law; admitted to the bar and practiced; deputy
governor of Rhode Island 1790-1803; presidential elector in 1792 and 1796; elected as a Democratic
Republican to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1803, until his death in Washington,
D.C., October 14, 1804; interment in the family burial ground, Kingston (formerly Little Rest),
Washington County, R.I.
