TREEN, DAVID CONNER, a Representative from Louisiana; born in Baton Rouge, La., July 16, 1928; attended public grammar schools in East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, and Orleans Parishes; graduated from Fortier High School, New Orleans, La., 1945; B.A., Tulane University, New Orleans, 1948; J.D., Tulane University Law School, 1950; served in the United States Air Force, 1951-1952; admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1950 and commenced practice in New Orleans; member, State Republican Central Committee, 1962-1973; unsuccessful Republican candidate for election to the House of Representatives in 1962, 1964, and 1968; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1972 for Governor; delegate, Republican National Conventions, 1964-1984; Republican National Committeeman of Louisiana, 1972-1974; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third Congress; reelected to the three succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1973, until his resignation March 10, 1980, to become Governor of Louisiana; served as Governor from March 10, 1980, until March 12, 1984; was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1983; nominated to United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, July 23, 1987; died on October 29, 2009, in Metairie, La.

The collection consists of a three-ring notebook entitled, "Accomplishments of the Governor David C. Treen Administration, 1980-1984." This compilation features reports submitted to the Governor by Secretaries of each state department summarizing the issues of the day and the accomplishments of those departments during the four-year term of Governor Treen. An executive summary of accomplishments is featured in section one of the notebook.

This collection consists of personal and professional papers of David C. Treen of southern Louisiana. Included are correspondence, reports, federal agency files, House committee files, legal and financial documents, press releases, greeting cards, photographs, proclamations, flags, audiotapes, books, newspaper clippings and other printed items. The papers in the collection relate to a wide range of topics, such as energy, housing, commerce, coastal wetlands, tourism, voter registration, the Nixon impeachment, political races, Edwin Edwards and other Louisiana politicians, education, festivals, the U.S. Bicentennial, and the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans.
